Photography Tips 101: How to Pick the Right Camera

February 15, 2018 by Joanna Strauss

Like buying a car, there are tons of choices but picking the one that is right for you is something that can be challenging. Buying your first camera will never be an easy decision – questions will run thru your mind such as would you by a camera with a rich photographic heritage, or something from a company that may have also made other appliances. Every individual has different need, and the best model for one person may never be the best model for you.

It is in your best interest to do some research for the right one for you, it may be daunting, but do not be afraid – your ultimate digital camera shopping guide will help you access and will help point you in the right direction.

Wondering how to choose the best camera for you? Before buying the your first camera, as these questions:

  • How will I use it?

If you need a camera almost every day for shooting, you might want to consider having a light one. The lighter and smaller the camera, the more inclined you will be able to use it and take it with you anywhere you go. A compact camera or a light mirror-less setup would be ideal. Yes you have reasons to go for something a little larger, if the size is not a priority or you want to use bigger lenses you can consider buying a DSLR. These are better appropriate for some types of photography, and provide great management.

  • What other camera and lens options are in the system?

If you are investing in a camera which you can change the lenses and accessories, it pays to examine what other camera and lens options are currently available in the market. You may find a particular system that provides you with a huge variety of options which you can see yourself using in the future and this may make the most sense. You should always be aware of the options you have for the future if you decided to upgrade and start building your kit.

  • Do you want a camera just for stills and vide too?

If you are fancy about giving or creating video recording a shot, you have to look for models with focusing systems that work well during video recording. Look for a camera with microphones and screens that flips.
